Normality returns to JCAA following disruption
Tue October 3, 2017

Normality has been restored at the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) following a service disruption on Monday.

Carl Gaynair, Deputy Director General of the JCAA, had reported to RJR News on Monday that a lightning strike had again affected the authority's system.

However, Nari Williams-Singh, Director General of the JCAA, told RJR News on Tuesday that the disruption was due to the failure of a component on its microwave network.

"We are not aware of a lightning strike...One of our sites on our microwave network had an issue and it was determined that a component had failed and so the technicians are addressing that," he clarified.

Mr. Williams-Singh added that the disruption did not significantly affect air traffic services.

"We had a brief period of about maybe 20 minutes that we were able to make the switch over to another site on the network. There weren't many airplanes that were being handled at the time and as far as we are aware, there were no disruptions to any aircraft," the director general revealed.
