Copa Airlines announces new route to Cuba
Mon, Feb 1st, 2016

PANAMA CITY

The Panamanian airline Copa Airlines announced it will create a new route with direct flights to the tourist destination of Holguin, east of Cuba, that will depart from Panama City starting mid this year.

“We are pleased to add Holguin as our third destination in Cuba, with which we expand the connection of this country to the rest of the continent and, thus, can offer greater opportunities for the development of tourism and trade,” said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines.

On the route, which will be operational from June 21, the manager said that Copa Airlines will continue to “contribute to that connectivity to raise Cuba’s profile as a tourist and cultural epicenter in the region.”

In a press release the airline explained that Holguin is considered one of the most important cities of the Greater Antilles, “for its tourist attractions, which allow travelers to experience a unique island experience.”

Flights are expected to start operating with two frequencies a week (Tuesday and Saturday), leaving the Tocumen International Airport in Panama, arriving at Frank Pais International Airport in Holguin, Cuba. After 20 years of service to Cuba, Copa Airlines expanded its contacts with Havana to seven daily flights since 2014 and flies four times a week to the city of Santa Clara, in the center of the country.
