BVI Airways secures Air Operators Certificate

BVI Airways (XV) has secured a revised Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from Air Safety Support International, the UK regulator responsible for the British Overseas Territories.

“This is a significant step forward toward commencing the first-ever non-stop flights between the United States and the British Virgin Islands (BVI),” Jerry Willoughby, President and CEO of BVI Airways, said.

The start-up will shortly apply for a Foreign Air Carrier Permit from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) following by its Operational Specifications (OpSpecs) from the US federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“With the AOC in hand, we can immediately file with the United States Department of Transportation to obtain the necessary approvals to fly into the U.S. We look forward to completing the process so we may begin providing our much anticipated scheduled non-stop jet service between Beef Island and Miami Int’l.”

Having already acquired two ARJ-100s, BVI Airways expects to complete all formalities and start US flights (scheduled and charter) in late April to mid-May.

In the meantime, its AOC will allow it to conduct flights to other islands across the Caribbean.
