The National Democratic Party (NDP) government has not made any further moves since October of last year, to pursue BVI Airways over its breach of contract.

In October, government had given BVI Airways a formal notification of breach, regarding the controversial agreement to provide direct flights between the BVI and Miami.

Government had injected $7.2M into the airline’s startup operations, but to date the direct flights have not commenced.

When asked last week by reporters about the next step, Premier and Finance Minister, Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith briefly said, “The matter is still with the Attorney General.”

In December, Opposition Leader, Hon. Andrew Fahie criticized government, where he stated that they are not taking any real steps (lawsuit) to address the matter. Hon. Fahie said that no case can be filed on behalf of the government without going through the Attorney General's office.

Many persons have called for the government to take back the money from the cash-strapped airline and put towards recovery efforts.
