The TSA is considering changing screening procedures at airport checkpoints.

"Over the past year, TSA has been adjusting screening procedures at select U.S. airports on a trial basis in an effort to improve screener performance at the checkpoint," spokesman Michael England said in an email Thursday. "There are no changes to what is allowed in carry-on bags. Travelers at select test locations may be asked to place certain electronics and other items in a separate bin for screening in an effort to de-clutter baggage."

According to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the story on Wednesday, the TSA has tested new procedures in Colorado Springs; Boise, Idaho; and Lubbock, Texas, as well as in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Boston, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale and San Juan. In some cases, passengers have been asked to separate all food and all electronics larger than cell phones into their own bins.

England said the TSA will evaluate the results of the tests to determine if any future checkpoint procedures should be altered.
