Tui eyes new routes to the Caribbean and Asia
14 October 2014

St Lucia, Antigua, Vietnam and Malaysia are all potential destinations of the future for Tui as the operator updates its fleet.

Thomson Airways Dreamliner

A total of two new Dreamliners on order will bring the operator’s fleet of the aircraft to 10 while it will have 47 of the new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft by 2020.

David Burling, managing director of TUI UK & Ireland, said the additional Dreamliners will allow the operator to consider trips further afield.

He added: “We’re particularly encouraged in south east Asia. We have seen natural growth; the growth has been particularly driven by more people taking shorter long haul breaks.”

Burling typically customers are going away for 10 and 11-night trips as opposed to the standard 14 nights.

He added while the operator is already flying to certain long-haul destinations including Phuket, Mauritius, Puerto Vallarta, the additional aircraft could also be used to increase frequencies.

Additional regional flying could also be on the cards Burling said, while he is also keen to see the operator’s Caribbean cruise programme served by a Dreamliner.

Tui is also planning new seating arrangements for Thomson Airways’ new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, including duo-seating for couples and booth areas for families.
