PAWA Dominicana (Pan Am World Airways Dominicana) has recently proposed that WINAIR and LIAT should all work together to feed each other’s routes.

Chairman of PAWA Dominicana Luis David Ramirez, was reported to have said that discussions are underway to set-up agreements with the aforementioned airlines, but that it’s not to compete with WINAIR or LIAT, but to work together by formulating an inter-airline agreement.

PAWA Dominicana is also proposing that Caribbean Governments cooperate through regional multi-national organizations on a strategy aimed at reducing taxes and fees that have been imposed on air travel.

The airline is of the opinion that regional Governments have more to gain from increased intra-regional travel by reducing the costs to travel.

PAWA’S history dates back to the year 2002 when it was legally born as a subsidiary of Pan American World Airways.

In 2007 is when it receives the Air Carrier Certification 121 from the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation that authorizes it to conduct domestic and international transport operations, in regular and non-regular (charter) flights.

Authorization in hand, and with a technical and human team prepared for the challenge, on October 1st 2007 it begins with regular flights to Port-au-Prince (Haiti) and charter flights to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, in the Caribbean. That same year, it is given Category 1 by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States Of America (FAA) authorization to fly to the US, and acquires its first plane, a DC-9 (30) with which it opens operations to this new destination.

In 2008 PAWA Dominicana inaugurates the first regular flight for a Dominican airline to the United States since the year 1993. From that point on, goes on to expand its operations in the region.

In 2009 the airline added flights to the cities of San Juan and Ponce in the neighboring island of Puerto Rico, thus connecting important tourist destinations.

As a milestone in its operations in 2014, a professional team committed to the challenge and a solid spirit, under new experienced management with a successful career over 25 years in international airlines, PAWA Dominicana focuses on recertifying the airline and starting flight operations, thus combining the necessary technical, strategic, financial and management support to ensure a successful operation.

With a significant investment in equipment and infrastructure, under the most strict international standards, PAWA Dominicana restarted its operations on August 14th 2015, following a Strategic Plan that include routes to Curacao, Aruba, Sint Maarten, Miami, Havana, San Juan (Puerto Rico) and New York.
