Prospective airline gets go ahead to use ‘Guyana Airways’ name
Nov 22, 2018

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has signalled its intention to adhere to a decision by the court which gives Guyana Airways Corporation Inc. the right to use the name.

Director General of the GCAA, Egbert Field told reporters Thursday that, “should documents be produced to us which are legal, we will … process them.”

The company, which aims to set up an airline and become Guyana’s national air carrier, has successfully defended the right to carry the name Guyana Airways following a High Court decision, online news agency Demerara Waves reported.

The name was struck off the Deeds and Commercial Registry list after it was found that the name is “identical” to another company, which is Guyana Airways 2000.

The new Guyana Airways was preparing to commence operations in October 2018 but it was unable to do so after the issue with the Deeds and Commercial Registry.

It intends to start with flights around the Caribbean and then, with time, introduce flights to North America.
