American Airlines parent AMR names 3 executives
November 18, 2011

AMR Corp., the parent of American Airlines, on Thursday named a new head of its corporate-communications office and promoted two other executives.

Andrew Backover was named vice president of corporate communications and will oversee media relations, communications with employees, and publications such as the American Way in-flight magazine. He had been managing director of the department.

Backover replaces Roger Frizzell, who left AMR to take a job with San Francisco-based utility Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

Charles Schubert was named vice president of network planning succeeding Walter Aue, who will retire Dec. 1. Schubert will oversee the planning of routes and regional airline service. He joined American in 2000 as a financial analyst and was named managing director of network planning last year.

AMR named Pedro Fabregas senior vice president for customer service at American Eagle, the regional airline that the company is spinning off. He will remain president of Eagle subsidiary Executive Airlines, which operates flights in the Caribbean. He replaces George Hazy, who will retire Dec. 1.

AMR shares fell 10 cents, or 5.5 percent, to $1.72 on Thursday. Earlier in the session, they hit an 8-year low of $1.63. The shares have tumbled in the past week on uncertain prospects for a labor contract with pilots.
