Garton to helm American Eagle once again
By: Aaron Karp
June 11, 2010

American Airlines named Executive VP-Marketing Daniel Garton president and CEO of regional affiliate American Eagle. He succeeds the retiring Peter Bowler, who held the post for 11 years (ATW, May 21). The role will not be entirely unfamiliar for Garton, who served as president of the unit in 1995-1998. He has held his current position at AA since 2002. "During Garton's tenure at American Eagle, he engineered the airline's transition from four separate carriers to one and introduced the regional airline to the jet age with the acquisition of its first jet aircraft," AA noted.

Chairman and CEO Gerard Arpey said, "Dan has remarkable talent and ability that, when coupled with his broad knowledge of the challenging airline industry and his insight from his time as president of American Eagle, make him uniquely qualified to lead American Eagle." Garton has been with AA since 1984. AMR Corp. announced its interest in divesting Eagle in 2007, but the process has not moved forward in the intervening years.
