AMR Corp. named Daniel Garton CEO of regional airline American Eagle and reiterated its intent to explore a divestiture of the carrier.

AMR announced its intention to divest American Eagle in November 2007. The following July, the company decided against divestiture, saying it wanted to wait until industry conditions were more favorable.

Garton returns to American Eagle after 12 years with American Airlines, most recently as executive vice president of marketing. While at American, Garton introduced a booking tool on AA.com that enables travelers to search flight options by both price and schedule.

Previously, Garton was president of American Eagle for three years, beginning in July 1995. During Garton's tenure at American Eagle, the airline consolidated four carriers into one and acquired its first jet.

Garton succeeds Peter Bowler, who announced his retirement in May. Garton will continue in his marketing role at American until a successor is named.
