An American Eagle Aerospatiale ATR-72, flight MQ-4885 from San Juan (Puerto Rico) to Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) with 17 passengers, was enroute near Saint Kitts (St. Kitts and Nevis) when the crew suspected the aircraft had received damage in a lightning strike and decided to divert to Saint Kitts' Golden Rock Airport for a safe landing.

A subsequent inspection of the aircraft showed, that a lightning had indeed struck the tail of the aircraft.

A replacement aircraft reached Port of Spain with a delay of 6:40 hours.

The following day the incident aircraft was ferried to San Juan for further examinations.
