Roraima Airways hosts ex-soldiers Christmas party again
Friday, 28 December 2012

CAPTAIN Gerald Gouveia of Roraima Airways hosted the annual Christmas Party for the war veterans (ex-soldiers) at his Duke Lodge in Kingston, Georgetown, on Thursday.

Among those entertained were the blind, less fortunate and the disabled. Mrs. Debbie Gouveia, wife of the host, noted that it was the third year of giving back to the ex-soldiers and she was excited to be there.

She said she is very concerned about their needs and for them to have medical services and transportation provided.

She urged other business houses, from both the public and private sectors, to come on board and help, while identifying ex-police and ex-fire officers who served this country to join them next year.

She said, as citizens of Guyana, they should take care of our own, make an impact on the lives of those individuals by making them as comfortable as they deserve to be.

Difficult times

Roraima Airways Administrative Manager, Mr. Gerald Mc Kenzie acknowledged that some of the ex-soldiers fell on difficult times.

He said, every year, the fete is spearheaded by the Gouveia couple, their sons, Gerry, Junior and Kevin, as well as staff.

Welfare Officer Beverley Sommerset said the Roraima Group of Companies caters for the less fortunate soldiers with assistance from Food for the Poor and retired soldiers living overseas.

She said every last Sunday the less fortunate soldiers are taken to church.

Sommerset said anyone wishing to be part of the effort can call retired Colonel George Gomes on telephone number 622-0062 or the Head Office ‘E’ Princes Street, Lodge, at 231-7570/231-7540.
